  Council offering £500m highways contract

Suffolk County Council is currently accepting applications for a £500 million Highways Services Contract.

Currently, road maintenance in the county is handled by a mixture of in-house teams and external contractors, but this work has now been integrated into a single contract and is on offer to a sole provider.

The contracted work will include construction, foundation and surface works for highways and roads; the maintenance of public-lighting installations and traffic lights; fleet management, repair and maintenance services; and verge maintenance work.

Pre-qualification questionnaires are now being accepted, with tender submissions being invited later in March.

A bidders' day will be held on February 16th in Ipswich to set out plans for the new contract, according to Construction Enquirer.

The contract will be awarded to the most economically advantageous tender and is set to begin on April 1st 2013.

Suffolk is located in East Anglia and the county town is Ipswich.
